Is CUBS Going Away? A Readiness Migration Checklist

If your agency runs on CUBS — The Collector System (TCS) —  you've probably been watching Finvi's plans for the platform closely. And that's exactly the problem: those plans keep moving. Finvi signaled it would retire CUBS/TCS, then changed course as of July 2026, leaving agencies without a clear answer on the platform's long-term future. When you can't count on a roadmap, the smart response isn't to panic-migrate... it's to get ready, so that whatever Finvi decides next doesn't disrupt your collections, compliance, or reporting. This checklist walks through what to confirm, gather, and evaluate now, so you can act quickly and calmly if the answer changes again.

Key takeaways

  • Finvi's plans for CUBS/TCS have shifted more than once, so agencies on the platform need a readiness plan, not a wait-and-see approach.
  • The safest moves are early and platform-agnostic: document your current state, map your data, and set your evaluation criteria now, while you still have full access to CUBS.
  • If you do decide to move, a modern replacement should be web-based, compliance-ready, configurable, and integration-friendly, and offer a phased migration path.

Is CUBS (The Collector System) being discontinued?

Not currently. Finvi had signaled it would retire CUBS/TCS, but as of July 2026 that plan has changed, so the honest answer is that the platform's future is unsettled rather than decided. For agencies running daily operations on it, that back-and-forth is its own risk: it's hard to plan around software when the roadmap keeps moving. You don't need to rip and replace on a rumor, but you do need a plan for the possibility and a shifting roadmap is also a fair reason to ask whether a legacy platform is still the right foundation, or whether it's time to modernize.

The CUBS readiness checklist

Work through these in order. The first three sections protect you no matter what Finvi decides. Do them early, while you still have full access to CUBS.

1. Confirm your timeline and access

  • Get Finvi's current CUBS/TCS roadmap and support commitments in writing and revisit them, since the plan has changed before
  • Note any contract end dates, renewal windows, or data-access cutoffs
  • Identify who owns the decision internally (operations, compliance, IT, finance)
  • Define the trigger events that would move you from "monitoring" to "migrating". A firm sunset date, a support change, or a price increase so you're acting on a plan, not a headline

2. Capture your data and history

  • Inventory what lives in CUBS today: accounts, balances, demographics, notes, payment history, documents
  • Decide what must carry forward vs. what can be archived
  • Confirm how balances and account history would be handled during a conversion
  • Export or back up records you'll need for compliance and client reporting
  • Flag any custom fields or fiscal data unique to your setup

3. Document your workflows and controls

  • Map current work queues, account strategies, and communication paths
  • List the workflow rules that must survive a move (and the workarounds you'd be glad to drop)
  • Document compliance controls: consent handling, communication limits, dispute and validation workflows, audit trails
  • Note the reporting your clients depend on and how it's produced today

4. Set your evaluation criteria

If the uncertainty is reason enough to look, score any replacement platform against what a modern operation actually needs:

  • Web-based, cloud delivery: no VPNs, database licenses, or self-run backups to maintain
  • Compliance controls built in not bolted on after the fact
  • Configurable workflows: does the system adjust to your operation?
  • Vendor-agnostic integrations: keep the payment and messaging vendors you're contracted with
  • Automation and AI with oversight: reduce manual work without removing human judgment
  • Self-service for consumers and clients
  • Continuous updates: regulatory and product changes ship regularly, not through disruptive upgrades

5. Plan the migration itself

  • Require a phased plan: current-state audit → data mapping → parallel validation → phased cutover
  • Confirm you can run key accounts in parallel before any switch
  • Ask how balances and history are reconciled before go-live
  • Confirm the move is reversible until the data is verified

What to look for in a modern CUBS replacement

A modern CUBS replacement should be a web-based platform with compliance controls built in, configurable workflows, open integrations, and a controlled migration path. That combination is what lets you leave legacy friction behind instead of carrying it onto new software.

This is where ACE by InterProse fits. ACE is a secure, web-based platform built on AWS with monthly update releases included, compliance controls designed into daily operations (with audit artifacts available for due diligence), vendor-agnostic integrations that support your existing vendors, and self-service for both consumers and clients. When the CFPB's Regulation F took effect, InterProse updated ACE to support the new requirements, see how in our Reg F video series. For a fuller comparison, see our guide to the best alternative to Finvi (CUBS/TCS) for collection agencies.

How long does a CUBS replacement take?

It depends on your data, workflows, and integrations, so a credible partner reviews your environment before committing to a date. A phased, validated migration prioritizes accuracy over speed — you run key accounts in parallel and cut over in controlled waves, so you're never fully switched until the data checks out.
